A recent case study shows the promise of chiropractic care for adolescents suffering from migraines, neck pain and vertigo. The case study involved a 12-year-old boy who presented with chronic migraines, neck pain and vertigo which kept him absent from school for more than half the time over the past several years.
For 12 months, the boy underwent high velocity low amplitude thrust adjustments to correct the subluxations found on chiropractic exam. The treatments began with a frequency of three visits per week for the first four weeks, but were then reduced to one visit per month for the remaining months.
After just one week, the boy reported that he no longer had migraines and neck pain. The vertigo attacks were also diminished in both frequency and severity. Eventually, the vertigo attacks ended as well. His days of absence from school decreased to only 56 half day absences, which is remarkable considering the previous absence rate was 223 half days.
Chiropractic care for neck pain, migraines and vertigo may be a safe and effective alternative or complementary adjunct to conventional treatment in both adults and children.
